MEET DOCTOR JEFF!Dr. Jeff is a world-renowned Alzheimer’s researcher and leader of clinical trials. He is the Joy Chambers-Grundy Professor of Brain Science, Vice Chair for Research, and Director of the Chambers-Gundy Center for Transformative Neuroscience, Department of Brain Health, School of Integrated Health Sciences, University of Nevada Las Vegas. Dr. Cummings’ interests embrace clinical trials, developing new therapies for brain diseases, and the interface of neuroscience and society.
Dr. Jeff was the founding Director of Cleveland Clinic Lou Ruvo Center for Brain Health for 10 years prior to him joining UNLV. He was formerly Augustas Rose Professor of Neurology and Professor of Psychiatry at UCLA, Director of the Mary S. Easton Center for Alzheimer’s Disease Research at UCLA, and Director of the Deane F. Johnson Center for Neurotherapeutics at UCLA. He is past president of the Behavioral Neurology Society and of the American Neuropsychiatric Association. |
Born and raised in a small town in Wyoming, Jeff has inherited and maintained the can-do cowboy attitude. Valedictorian in his class, zoology major in college, Jeff completed his MD at University of Washington, Seattle, Neurology residency and a Fellowship in Behavioral Neurology at Boston University, Boston, Massachusetts. US training was followed by a Research Fellowship in Neuropathology and Neuropsychiatry at the National Hospital for Nervous Diseases, Queen Square, London, England.
He has been recognized for his research and leadership contributions in the field of Alzheimer’s disease with many awards such as the Henderson Award of the American Geriatrics Society (2006), the Ronald and Nancy Reagan Research Award of the national Alzheimer’s Association (2008), and the Lifetime Achievement Award of the Society for Behavioral and Cognitive Neurology. In 2010, he was honored by the American Association of Geriatric Psychiatry with their Distinguished Scientist Award. In 2018, he was honored with the Leadership and Achievement Award by the International Society of CNS Drug Development, and he received the Bengt Winblad Lifetime Achievement Award from the national Alzheimer’s Association. In 2019, the International Psychogeriatric Association awarded him with the Distinguished Service Award and he received the Alzheimer’s Drug Discovery Foundation’s Melvin R. Goodes Prize that honors an innovative researcher who has made a significant and lasting impact in the field. He was featured in the Gentleman’s Quarterly as a “Rock Star of Science™.”

MEET DOCTOR KATE!Dr. Kate Zhong is a geriatric psychiatrist, pharmacologist, and brain health advocate. She is the Director of Innovation at Chamber’s Grundy Center for Transformative Neuroscience, and an Adjunct professor in the Department of Brain Health, University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV).
Dr. Kate served as the Chief Strategy Officer for the Global Alzheimer’s Platform (GAP), a foundation devoted to improving and accelerating clinical trials for Alzheimer’s disease. Dr. Zhong was the Senior Director of Clinical Research for the Cleveland Clinic Lou Ruvo Center for Brain Health, where she led the development of comprehensive clinical trial and research programs for Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis, and traumatic brain injury. |
She is the creator of Cleveland Clinic Healthy Brains, an innovative interactive digital platform to accelerate clinical trial enrollment and to empower the public with tools and strategies to improve their brain health and reduce risk for brain disorder.
As the founder and CEO of CNS Innovations, a company dedicated to providing innovative consultation services to advance prevention, diagnosis and treatment of Alzheimer’s disease, Dr. Kate has worked closely with academic centers, health care institutions, pharmaceutical companies, non for-profit organization to advance brain science and brain health.
She is known among her colleges and friends as a fashion forward doctor, she created “Perfectly Imperfect” fresh water pearl collection, to empower and support women of all colors, races and backgrounds.
Dr. Kate received her MD degree at age 22 from West China University of Medical Sciences in Sichuan, China. She earned her master’s degree in pharmacology and completed her residency training in Psychiatry at University of Toronto. She is a fellow of Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.
